Designed in the mid-90s by designer Fulvio Bani under the supervision of architect Fernando Grattirola, Valtellina Golf officially began its activities in May 1999. Born from the passion of a group of golf-loving sponsors, the Club has significantly contributed to the spread of golf in the province of Sondrio, welcoming new players each year. In addition to being a welcoming Club for playing golf and socializing with friends, Valtellina Golf has enriched the Valley's tourist offer, enhancing the environmental and landscape features of a uniquely beautiful natural context: just a stone's throw from Sondrio, on the banks of the Adda River, surrounded by the terraced vineyards of the Retic Alps and the lush forests of the Orobie, with the white massif of the Adamello and the granite peaks of Disgrazia in the background. In 2007, Valtellina Golf hosted the 3rd Lombardy Professional Championship, and the appreciation of nationally and internationally renowned players convinced the Club to embark on a project to expand from 9 to 18 holes, an operation that would place the course among the most important and fascinating in the national territory. In the fall of 2009, the first earthworks began, and on October 16, 2010, the 18 holes were inaugurated in record time. In 2022, the Golf Club experienced a brief phase of Spanish management aimed at enhancing the Club within the global tourist offer. This was handled by the Global Golf company, which managed a total of 32 golf courses. In 2024, a relaunch phase began, with the Menaggio Golf Club and a new amateur sports association consisting of about fifteen members, including representatives from the Larian Golf Club and the Bormio Golf Club, and chaired by Roberto Brivio, managing the green.
The Board of the new Valtellina Golf & Country Club consists of about fifteen members, including representatives from the Menaggio and Cadenabbia Golf Club, those from the Bormio Golf Club, and chaired by Roberto Brivio, who led the Valtellina club for fifteen years. The new association will handle more strictly sporting management - organizing competitions, sponsors, awards - while the actual management is followed by the Menaggio Golf Club involving the entire provincial territory, mainly Bormio, where there is another nine-hole course, and Livigno, which has a practice range.
